Brian K. Lee, MD, is a board-certified transplant nephrologist and the Medical Director of the Kidney Transplant Program within the Abdominal Transplant Center, the clinical partnership between Ascension Seton and UT Health Austin. He specializes in caring for both adult and young adult patients with end-stage kidney disease who may benefit from a kidney transplant. Additionally, Dr. Lee is a professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Internal Medicine at The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Lee earned his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He completed both an internship and residency in internal medicine as well as a fellowship in nephrology and hypertension at MetroHealth Medical Center and Case Western Reserve University. He also completed a fellowship in transplant nephrology at the University of California, San Francisco and a fellowship in integrative medicine at The University of Arizona to inform patients on the use of complementary and alternative medicine during the kidney transplant process. Dr. Lee previously served as the Medical Director of the Living Kidney Donor Program at the University of California, San Francisco, where his team performed evaluations to get patients added to the kidney transplant wait list, evaluated prospective living donors, and ensured compatibility between donors and recipients. In his current role, in addition to helping complete pre-surgical workups, he provides care for patients after surgery and follows up with patients to manage immunosuppression and any other complications that may occur. If a patient's kidneys fail after surgery, he helps evaluate the patient for a second transplant. His research focuses on living donation, and he studies the barriers to donation, the outcomes of transplants from living donors, and ways to optimize kidney function and longevity following living donor transplantation. He also studies how to desensitize recipients (lower antibody levels) to lower their risk of a rapid, severe rejection of the transplanted organ. He is a member of the American Society of Nephrology, the American Society of Transplantation, and the National Kidney Registry. Dr. Lee is a transplant nephrologist with UT Health Austin.

Tom Lue
Professor of Urology, Emil Tanagho Endowed Chair in Clinical UrologyUniversity of California San Francisco, United States
Dr. Tom F. Lue graduated with highest honors from Kaohsiung Medical College, in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan in 1972. After completing his urologic training at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York he was awarded the Valentine Fellowship from the New York Academy of Medicine to pursue studies of neurophysiology of the genitourinary tract at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in 1981. Currently, he is Professor of Urology, Emil Tanagho Endowed Chair in Clinical Urology, Founder and Director of the Knuppe Molecular Urology lab. at the University of California, San Francisco. Besides urological surgical practice, Dr. Lue continued to pursue basic and clinical research throughout his career. In basic research, his team discovered the anatomical and hemodynamic mechanisms of venous occlusion that are essential for achieving and maintaining penile erection. His team isolated “pure” erection nerves in dogs and monkeys and obtained a USA patent “erection pacemaker”. His team also developed various animal models for vasculogenic and neurogenic erectile dysfunction, Peyronie’s disease, overactive and underactive bladder, and urinary incontinence. He was the third urologist to receive a MERIT grant award from the NIH for his outstanding research. He continued to have NIH support up to the present. Dr. Lue's current basic science research projects involve the development of a non-invasive stem/progenitor cell therapy for various diseases including erectile dysfunction, overactive bladder, incontinence, infertility, nerve and muscle injury, and degenerative diseases. In clinical practice, he is a well-respected urologic surgeon and has been invited to share his experience with colleagues all over the world. He introduced duplex ultrasound and penile injection and stimulation test which have become the gold standard for the diagnosis of vasculogenic ED, Peyronie’s disease, and priapism. He developed 4 surgical procedures for Peyronie’s disease: 16 dots plication procedure, H-incision with saphenous vein graft; extra-tunical grafting for hourglass deformity, and subtunical excision of ossified plaques. He also developed 3 novel treatments for 3 types of priapisms: T shunt + perioperative anticoagulation for prolonged ischemic priapism, antiandrogen for high flow priapism and intracavernous Botox for recurrent priapism. For problems that may occur with implantation of a penile prosthesis, he introduced transglanular fixation for deviated cylinder tip and a plication technique to correct deformity prior to cylinder implantation. Dr. Lue has been the recipient of the American Urological Association's Gold Cystoscope Award, Presidential Citation, John Latimore Lecturer, and the American Foundation of Urological Diseases’ Most Innovative Researcher Award as well as the Distinguished Alumnus Award. In 2009 Dr. Lue received an Honorary Doctor of Science Degree for his contribution to science from Downstate Medical School, the State University of New York. His most recent accolade is the Spence Medal Award from the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons in April 2025. He has published more than 500 peer-reviewed articles and written more than 100 book chapters. He is the editor-in-chief of Translational Andrology and Urology.
